Lucy Bronze
As her middle name suggests, Lucia Roberta Tough Bronze is the embodiment of strength and resilience as a long-standing member of the England national team – the Lionesses. As part of the historic line-up that brought the European Championships home to England during the UEFA Women’s Euro 2022, Lucy earned a nomination for the women’s Ballon d’Or award. It was the culmination of a remarkable international career. She represented England at all youth levels before joining the full national squad at Euro 2013. Lucy won the Silver Ball for her performance at the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup in France, after helping England to a fourth place finish. She was named in the All-Star Squad at the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup hosted by Canada.
In 2014 and 2017, Lucy twice won the PFA Women’s Players’ Player of the Year Award. She then went on to be named BBC Women’s Footballer of the Year in 2018 and 2020. In 2019, she became the first English footballer to win the UEFA Women’s Player of the Year Award and was named The Best FIFA Women’s Player in December 2020.
Lucy’s career started with Alnwick Town AFE at U11 level. She moved on to Sunderland, the Tar Heels and back to Sunderland again. With Everton, she played in their UEFA Women’s Champions League squad. She then moved to Liverpool, Manchester City and Olympique Lyonnais before returning to Manchester and moving on to Barcelona.
Lucy is a vocal champion for women’s sports and a visible spokesperson for Nike and Visa. Accustomed to overcoming adversity, Lucy played throughout the Euros despite a knee injury, which required surgery after the Olympics. As a speaker, Lucy has talked openly about mental health, resilience and pushing yourself past mental obstacles to achieve great things.
