Harry Redknapp
Harry Redknapp is one of the most famous football speakers and managers currently working on the after-dinner speaker circuit. With a background as a player and manager at West Ham, Harry also enjoyed success managing Tottenham Hotspur in the Champions League and Portsmouth twice, getting them promoted to the Premier League and winning the FA Cup. An insightful and popular pundit, Harry has developed a highly successful TV career as the Manager of “Harry’s Heroes” and Winner of “I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here” in 2018.
During his playing career, Harry was a midfielder, starting with Tottenham’s youth team before moving to West Ham. He made 175 appearances in both league and cup for the Hammers, before moving to AFC Bournemouth. Harry’s playing career then took him to America, where he signed for Seattle Sounders in the North American Soccer League as a player coach.
Retiring in the late 1970s he went on to manage Bournemouth before returning to West Ham. Harry introduced a number of young players from the club’s academy, including Michael Carrick, Joe Cole, Rio Ferdinand and Frank Lampard and West Ham went on to win the Intertoto Cup and qualified for the UEFA Cup – an achievement Redknapp talks about fondly as a football speaker.
In 2001 Harry became director of football for Portsmouth, before taking over as manager in 2002 helping the team gain promotion to the Premier League. In 2008 he guided the club to their first FA Cup Final in 69 years, where they defeated Cardiff City. He then managed Tottenham Hotspur, leading the club to the quarter-finals of the Champions League and being named Premier League Manager of the Year. Harry has also managed Southampton, Queens Park Rangers, Jordan and Birmingham City.
Alongside his work as a football speaker and Premier League manager Harry held dreams of managing the England international team, but was pipped to the post by Roy Hodgson in 2012 amidst erroneous allegations of corruption and fraud. His ability to remain a dedicated and competent manager through various trials and tribulations reinforces the determination and ambition which carried him throughout his career and his strength of character shines through at events when he performs as a speaker.
